Melissa and Jeremy set out to have a fantastic Engagement session in their building, taking in the amazing views of the Boston Harbor and the city. However mother nature had a nice laugh at us that day. After having an inordinately warm and beautiful fall, we happened to pick the one rainy, cold and very windy day. So our time on the incredible deck of their home was cut short by the elements and crazy wind, giving Melissa's dress a life of it's own. We went on to make images inside and then around Boston as well as having a great time. I can't wait to shoot with them again next year for their wedding and on a personal note celebrate my birthday on their wedding day! Oh the life of a wedding photographer and I wouldn't trade it for anything!
Here are a few from our crazy time together and some words from the coule about their story!
How did you two meet?
As it usually happens, we met when we were least expecting it, through Melissa's maid of honor and one of Jeremy's friends from college. After getting to know each other a little, we made plans and went our first date by TD Garden. Three hours and a couple of bad food orders later, we decided to set up another date and we are so happy we did!
Tell us the proposal story~
Jeremy was traveling for work and his trip was ending in North Carolina - perfect timing as we were heading to my parents' house to celebrate Christmas. Little did I know that he had been traveling with an engagement ring the whole time! When we got back to the house on Christmas Eve, Jeremy dropped a couple of presents under the tree and went upstairs. When he came back down, our family gathered for a "cheers", but strangely, Jeremy took the lead and then asked me to open my present under the tree. I unwrapped the present and inside was a note asking me to marry him - and when I finally stopped jumping around and looked up, he was down on his knee proposing! It was so thoughtful that he included my family in that special moment.
What details are you most excited about for your wedding? There are many things we are excited about...all of our family and friends in one place, the band, the view from our venue, and all of the unique touches that will make it OUR wedding come to mind. We are also excited to see what the ceremony space will look like when it is all set up, and although we haven't picked it out yet, we are obviously excited for the cake tasting. I think more than the details though, we are just very excited to "officially" start our life together even though it has felt that way for quite some time.
Where are you getting married? Wequassett Resort, Harwich, MA
What look were you going for in your engagement session?
We wanted to take some photos with a formal look - Jeremy in a suit and myself in a dress and heels - and then also do a look that captured more of our casual side. Fall in Boston is a beautiful time and we wanted to shoot at locations that were meaningful to us around the city.
Do you have any tips or advice for couples getting ready for their session?
Don't overthink it - try to think of what you enjoy most and what embodies the two of you the most. You won't appreciate the time and the photos as much if it doesn't feel like it is what you are about as a couple.
How was your overall session experience?
We really enjoyed our session. We had some bad-luck weather but we were very happy to spend the time together, and Christian was great in giving direction, being flexible with the environment we were given, and allowing us to be us. We are really looking forward to seeing how our photos came out!
