We had such a blast this past weekend with back to back wedding days and to kick it off was Kim and Dan in Hampden! We knew it was going to be a great wedding for many reasons, first off we had spent quite a bit of town on their Newport engagement session. Dan had attended college at Salve Regina University in Newport and had also proposed to Kim there so it was a perfect location for their engagement session! We always urge our engagement clients to try and pick a meaningful location for their shoot and Kim and Dan definitely did! Since it was a destination engagement session we had the ability to spend a bit more time with them and Dan became an impromptu tour guide of Newport for us! To check out their incredible session, you can find it here. We had such a great time and really saw how beautiful these soul mates were together so we knew the wedding day would be no different. And Kim is one of the most organized brides we have ever worked with, so between our timeline and her even more detailed timeline, there was no margin for error!
The entire day ran seamlessly with this laid back couple. We started the day at The Starting Gate at Greathorse, where Dan got ready. Side note, I'm not a golfer but if I were, this would be the course to play! It was absolutely breathtaking, the amenities, the view and the staff were all impeccable. Dan was easing into this momentous day with his best man who also happened to be his father. After some getting ready shots, we were on to Kim.
Imagine our surprise when we arrived and not only were they on schedule, but had actually been finished with hair and makeup and just hanging out! This NEVER happens! On top of them being on it and ready to go, it was also one of the most tranquil pre wedding atmospheres we have ever seen! Kim looked radiant and her dress was so perfect for her!
The day continued in this same fashion with the biggest snafu (if you can even call it that) was the internet running slow to download the same day slideshow at the reception! We got it all done on time though and were able to show it to the most talented singer doing a live version of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love". Make sure to scroll down to check out there day as well as their same day slideshow from that night and most importantly their story! Congrats to the happy couple, we couldn't be happier for you!
Tell us how you first met- who, what, when, where, why? Give us the dirty details-
Dan and Kim both work at the same company although in separate departments with little interaction with one another. Dan would see Kim walking around the office extremely happy and upbeat, under five feet tall, and wearing chunky jewelry. How can someone not fall in love with that?! Lol! Dan would say to himself, she must be someone's little princess, but she is exactly the girl he'd want to be with. Lucky for him, lil Kim was available!! Dan and Kim were asked by their company to attend an offsite meeting in order to provide feedback on a local organization. Dan volunteered, at the very last minute, to attend the meeting so he wouldn't look too interested. They hung out a few times after that, and after about the 3rd or 4th time hanging out, Kim finally got the picture that this was more than just hanging out. It's been happily ever after since!!
When did you know he/she was the one? Was there something he/she did? etc-
Kim can't say it was a specific event, but just a few months after dating and learning about one another, she was impressed by how caring and loyal Dan was. She remembers him talking about his fond memories of growing up and going everywhere with his parents. Kim never really wanted children, but if she had children, Kim knew Dan had the same ideas in raising them. For the first time, Kim was excited and wanted to have children with him and knew that he was the one.
Dan knew Kim was the one early on in their relationship as well. Kim is the most positive happy person he's ever met, and she is the same bubbly happy person in public as she is in private. On top of that, Kim loves to laugh and have fun! Over all of the fun they were having, Dan could hear the wedding bells ringing in his head!
Tell us about the proposal. Did you see it coming, how long was it in the planning? how did you feel? nervous, excited, freaking out?-
Dan attended college at Salve Regina University in Newport, RI. He knew Newport and the mansions would be the perfect setting for his proposal. Dan invited Kim to go see the mansions, as they are decorated for Christmas. Both Kim and Dan's parents were on their way to Newport ahead of them, as Dan filled them in on his plan. Once they arrived at the Salve mansion "Ochre Court", Dan whisked Kim over to the window to look at the ocean, and with their parents watching from the balcony behind them, Dan got on one knee. Who knew Dan could be such a romantic?! Kim cried happy tears for weeks over the fact that Dan was sweet enough to include their families in the proposal.
Tell us the one thing you love most about each other-
Kim and Dan both love the fact that the other is their perfect companion.. They always laugh, never fight, and have nothing short of a fairy tail romance!
If you feel comfortable, share with us something silly or quirky the other person does-
Kim says: "Dan's always randomly breaking into song, and he'll interject my name into the song to make it funny or change the words to be something like how much he loves me or wants to smooch my face."
Dan says: "Lil Kim's like a walking cartoon character. Always going around laughing and happy. She's a bit organized though...drop a crumb on her swept floors, and she'll go from my little cartoon character to my little Napoleon in a flash! She can't be mean though, so she's like a friendly little Napoleon who asks you nicely to pick up your mess."
6. Besides getting married, what's the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Dancing the night away with all of the people we love and seeing everyone having a great time!
